the SHED recording studio, premieres new song COOL #10
Formerly called the CHICKENSHACK project, the results of the design seemed to call for a more contemporary, straightforward title. No chickens here. Just ideas, born in a 7×7 shed purchased at Walmart for 700.00! That and a little carpentry brought the concept to life. The Shed is the brainchild of composer, keyboardist and producer Chris Schulze, known mostly for his scoring of Hawaii’s number one sports television series, Hawaii Skin Diver. It was designed on his property to eliminate the cost of leasing studio property, and to isolate the electronics from the salt and moisture of the outside atmosphere. It is a soundproof design that was almost perfected at first attempt. The Shed is to music studios what the i-Phone is to micro-technological breakthroughs; a stealth array of high-tech features packaged neatly into a portable, ergonomic outer casing. Even the recording desk was thought up just for this studio, and the idea was custom built into a reality by Gordon Lee, owner of Ho’okupu Woodworks. Since it’s completion, the studio has seen projects ranging from television scores to full-length CD projects. Don’t let it’s size fool you into thinking size is too prohibitive to produce other instrument tracks. The Shed can record your guitar track and vocals, and can literally lay out a whole background music bed consisting of every musical instrument you need on it without adding the expense of session players. Need a session guitar player? No problem. Don’t have a …

I like this little song mate it’s really relaxing, sounds like something don henley would have dished out early 90′s really nice, real sun set grill kinda stuff.
Awesome composition … I have seen some sheds in my time but this is fantastic !!
Thanks very much for the kind comment! I think slow and easy does it, figure out what it is you’re trying to achieve design wise and consult with people regarding each aspect of the construction. That’s always the best way when you’re getting into something new. Best!
This is awesome, great set up, and great music. me n my buddy are going to try and attempt to make a studio in his shed also. Any tips you can offer us? thanks
I like your studio. You made a big thing in a small space. A place to create is important. A workshop for your mind.
Yeah I will, I’ve got everything setup in my room right now but it would be soo much better in the garage!
Thanks, and GO FOR IT!!!
Great Video! I thought about putting my studio in the upstairs of an outside garage.
Hey Jim, thanks very much for your feedback! I actually live in Hawaii on the island of Oahu. Someday I plan to move Northwest mainland, who knows where, somewhere between Oregon and Vancouver BC I imagine. I had a look at your page, very cool! Who are your musical influences? *Great tip on the magnets, btw!*
Great studio, great enthusiasm, great idea of studio in separate space…and the shed idea…would have never thought of that…you are a great guy and seem to be geniune mcCoy,
all rolled into one awesome music producing person. Deep.
I bet your friends love you to bits…Oh, try some magnets on the underside to keep the door/drawer flap up…gets out of the way of the knees.
Thanks for sharing…Would welcome more…
What part of the world are you in?
Thanks!
cool!! nice shed
Very accurate prediction on Stanley Clarke, that was the bassist whose style I had in mind during this recording.
Thanks for those kind words. I’m self taught. Been playing about 20 years on and off. Wish I’d taken lessons because my knowledge of rudiments is, well, rudimentary!!
Neil Peart is my hero.
It looks like you live in paradise. Ideal settings..the beach and the studio..
This piece of music reminds me of Stanley Clarke/Wally Badarou. Great stuff!!
Best wishes
Yes indeed that is. I dropped by your site to witness your Roland Drum solo, that’s some wicked chops you have there Clearlight!
Nice playing, great studio setup. Well done sir. I noticed ‘Anatomy Of A Drum Solo’ DVD there too. Excellent taste!
Nice and smooth!
